  • Location (New Zealand): North Shore, Auckland
  • Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time
  • Base (NZD): 150k – 170k per annum
  • Start Date: Immediate / Negotiable

We are seeking a Director of Radar to lead our global radar and positioning sensor group. This is a high-impact role that shapes the future of sensor technology and delivers autonomy in next-generation marine systems.

Position Overview

As Director of Radar, you will:

  • Lead global development of radar, sensor platforms, and research initiatives
  • Oversee a team of systems engineers, radar, FPGA, DSP, RF, GNSS, embedded/software engineers, and Quality/V&V engineers
  • Drive technical execution, performance, and innovation in radar and sensor systems
  • Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, and software engineering leaders globally
  • Shape product strategy, roadmaps, and research to deliver future-focused solutions
  • Ensure sensor integration and fusion across radar, cameras, LiDAR, ultrasonic, and other technologies

What You'll Do

  • Manage and mentor direct and indirect teams to foster a high-performance global environment
  • Design and plan radar and positioning sensor systems, including antennas, GNSS, RTK, and IMU
  • Develop algorithms to process radar signals and extract meaningful information
  • Oversee simulations and tests to ensure system performance and accuracy
  • Maintain product lifecycle, improvements, and operational excellence
  • Communicate strategy and technical insights clearly to a global audience

You Have

  • Bachelor's in Engineering (Master's or PhD preferred) with 10+ years' experience
  • Deep knowledge of radar systems, RF, FPGA, signal processing, GNSS, IMU, software & ML
  • Understanding of hardware and mechanical engineering
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to lead global teams, resolve conflicts, and make strategic decisions
  • Strong problem-solving, prioritisation, and adaptability under changing conditions
