Validation Lab Manager | Marine Technology 🛳️

  • 💰 Base (NZD): 160k – 190k per annum

We are looking for a collaborative Validation Lab Manager to oversee our Auckland-based laboratory facilities and lead our world-class testing team.


The Role 🎯

As the Validation Lab Manager, you will be the bridge between vision and reality. You will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring our engineering teams have the testing data they need to launch industry-leading products.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing team of laboratory test engineers and technicians 👥
  • Strategic Oversight: Manage the lab’s strategic roadmap, integrating new technologies (robotics, data acquisition) to keep us at the cutting edge. 🛠️
  • Operational Excellence: Drive process improvements using 5S+1 and Lean Six Sigma tools. 📈
  • Execution & Accountability: Partner with Program Leads to ensure test plans are executed on time, identifying risks and driving mitigation actions. ⏳
  • Budget & Compliance: Manage lab budgets and ensure strict adherence to safety, quality, and global operational standards. 💰

What We’re Looking For 🔍

We value diversity of thought and experience. To be successful in this role, you should bring:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering. 🎓
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of multi-disciplinary validation (Mechanical, Software, Hardware, EMC, and Systems). 💻
  • Leadership: Proven experience managing teams and collaborating across international sites. 🌍
  • Process Driven: Proficiency in LIMS (Lab Information Management Systems) and structured problem-solving.
  • Experience (Preferred): 10+ years in Test Engineering/Product Development, and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is highly desirable. 🟢
  • Industry Passion: An interest in recreational boating or mobile technology will help you refine our test methodologies! 🚤

Working Conditions & Environment 🏢

  • Hybrid Flexibility: This is an on-site role in Rosedale, but we offer flexibility.
  • The Lab: You’ll engage with advanced equipment, including shock/vibration systems, environmental chambers, battery cell cycling, and robotics. 🤖
  • Global Reach: Your working hours may vary to support our global organisation, with occasional international travel (10-15%). ✈️
